Erosion remains a menace threatening the Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) and would require over N290 million to find a lasting solution to it. The Vice-chancellor, Prof Mkpa A. Nigeria: Benue Embraces New Curriculum, Trains Teachers
Benue State has embraced the new nine-year basic education curriculum, with plans to train teachers on its use. Interim Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (BSUBEB), Dr. Tornge Toranyii, who announced this while fielding questions from newsmen expressed the hope that the measure would lift the state from its educational backwardness, to compete favorably with other progressive states in the country.

Nigeria: UI - From Clay House to Citadel of Learning
Two distinguished alumni of the premier university, the University of Ibadan , Deacon Gamaliel Onosode and Prof. Iya Abubakar on Monday made the award list as the institution rounded off its diamond anniversary. Onosode was a 1957 graduate of Classics, while Abubakar got his first degree in Mathematics the following year. The duo joined two other personalities, a Nigerian, Olola Fredrick Ogunlana and an American, Prof. Phyllis Jean Kanki. Ogunlana received a honorary doctor of literature award on account of being the chairman of the Endowment Fund of the university, which in 1973 when it was set up had a little below N1million but by now boasts of more than N1billion in investments. The American got the honorary award of doctor of science for her research and studies in HIV/AIDS.

Nigeria: The Rising Wave of Cultism in Nigerian Universities
The report of cult clashes in the nation's universities in the print and electronic media lately is a source of worry to all men of goodwill. The latest of such bestial attacks is the stabbing to death of a student of the University of Ado -Ekiti by a notorious cultist called 'Osama'. Newspaper reports has it that the deceased, Femi appealed to Osama and his gang who were howling and partying in what they called end of exams party not to disturb the remaining students still reading for their exams. Osama was said to have been infuriated over Femi's audacity to challenge him and he subsequently stabbed him on the neck with a knife and left the knife there. Femi later died in the hospital after losing so much blood. Osama and his gang were beaten up by irate students and were only rescued from being lynched by the police who has since taken them to custody. It was learnt that the same Osama stabbed another student in August 2008 after which he was arrested but was shortly released.
