Nigeria: Obama - Black Cinderella, New Dawn And Antichrist (Two)
What propelled Obama's fairytale victory? Firstly, he refused to give the cold shoulder treatment to the Clintons, opting instead to smoke a peace pipe with Hilary. He understood the make-or-mar importance of the combined electoral votes of California (55), New York (31), Pennsylvania (21), Ohio (20), New Jersey (15), Massachusetts (12), and Florida (27). Hilary had given him a good hiding in the primaries in the first six and 'won' the last in an annulled poll. Winning these seven states alone (out of 50) would mean having a whopping 181 electoral votes in the kitty (an awesome 67 percent of the 270 votes needed for outright victory)!

Kenya: The Obama Administration - the Hard Work Begins
The campaigns are over and across the world people are getting used to the idea of a President Obama. So much so that even the Group of 20 meeting in Washington on the global financial crisis decided not to make formally binding decisions till April next year, tacitly deciding to give Obama and his administration time to settle and get to grips with the issues at hand. Obama and his team, to be sure, are busy getting ready for January 20, 2009 when Barack Obama will become President Obama. But it now appears that these are issues he has been grappling with for a while.

Nigeria: Obama's Victory, Not Ours
It is always so amazing how we Africans can claim a good thing once it has become a finished product. We love to eat a very well baked cake but we are never patient enough to go through the chores of baking the cake. Sportsmen for example practically leave these shore frustrated and they get groomed by foreign nations and as soon as a they become stars in Europe, Asia or America you hear Nigerians saying ' Oh he is a Nigerian ." Up until this very day a friend of mine insists on calling the Arsenal Football Club of London star Emmanuel Adebayor, a Nigerian, but I never fail to point out to him that Adebayor is Togolese true and through. (excuse the pun). His father may have been born in Nigeria, even he too was born in Nigeria but the country that gave him succor and made him somebody is Togo. QED.

Sierra Leone: Barack Obama is Not the First "Black President"
That every election has its own share of myths is hardly a revelation, and this year's American presidential election is no different. One of the most pernicious of the myths during the campaign was the one that Barack Obama will be the "first Black President" should he win. Around 10:30 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, every radio and television station repeated ad nauseam the myth that "America has elected Barack Obama as its first Black President in what is its most unprecedented historic election."

Africa: Thinking About the U.S. Transition
"The problem [with projections of President-elect Obama's foreign policy priorities] is that for a new leader promising change, they have tended to reflect the most traditional sorts of Washington priorities, neglecting other parts of the world that are starving for American moral and political leadership; places where Obama, by virtue of his unique background, offers particularly compelling potential for impact. ... The most obvious and important omission ...is Africa, a continent of nearly one billion people today that according to United Nations projections will count an astounding two billion people by mid-century." - Howard W. French

Nigeria: Obama's Election And the Needed Change
Let me begin this article by congratulating President-Elect Senator Barack Obama for his well-deserved victory in the just concluded US Presidential Election of 2008. Senator Obama's victory brought with it a new, refreshing and exciting taste in our mouths.
