Timberwolves' Telfair banned over gun possession

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Sebastian Telfair has been suspended without pay for three games by the NBA after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon.

Telfair will be suspended for the first three games of the 2008-09 season for which he is eligible and physically able to play, the league said in a statement.

The player was arrested on charges of violating the handgun laws of the State of New York, in April 2007, while he was with the Boston Celtics. He was recently sentenced to three months' probation.
