As many of you probably recall, I am a longtime follower of the unique brand of whatthefuckery provided by Andrew Schlafly's collaborative blog Conservapedia. As such, I have long been watching the bizarre saga of Schalfly's absurd effort to do battle with top notch scientist Richard Lenski. Most recently, Schlafly drug this insanity out by sending a letter to the Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences, otherwise known as PNAS. The letter alleged, among other things, that Lenski is an incompetent statistician and a fraud.

Well folks, PNAS has responded, and it's a beaut.

Church owes Charles Darwin apology over evolution theory, says senior Anglican

"People, and institutions, make mistakes and Christian people and churches are no exception. When a big new idea emerges which changes the way people look at the world, it's easy to feel that every old idea, every certainty, is under attack and then to do battle against the new insights.

"The church made that mistake with Galileo's astronomy, and has since realised its error. Some church people did it again in the 1860s with Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection."
